Check out the slides of my talk “Towards a democratic, scalable, and sustainable digital future” yesterday at the ETH Zürich:
The digital world is changing at an unprecedented pace. Recently, the power of central entities acting like monopolies of information has become extremely large and provides these entities with the possibility to undermine the freedom of society. Hence, we need a democratic vision of the digital future in which individuals are in control of their information instead of a few monopolies. Furthermore, the Internet of Things will lead to an explosion in the number of devices, emphasizing the need to design a scalable digital future. Last but not least, the rapid evolution of the digital environment demands for a robust vision of the digital future to ensure its sustainability. Here, I provide a systems perspective on essential ingredients for such a desirable digital future based on recent findings in the field of interacting and interconnected networks.
